ZEIDES 2022: Netis and Rekono present the first working solution to issue, exchange, and verify digital credentials

At the largest Slovenian conference on trust in e-services, attended by government representatives, industry experts and e-solutions providers, we demonstrated how our innovation was applied to digitize the student enrollment form at the University of Maribor.

We received relevant exposure and great feedback by giving two lectures – the first was a demonstration of a secure infrastructure to issue, exchange and verify digital credentials developed with Rekono. Let’s explain the details.

LECTURE 1: DEMO PROJECT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR

Many procedures today require us to present certificates or other relevant documents upon identification. They usually come in paper form and must be verified with the issuer before accreditation, causing delays and preventing organizations from providing the same services digitally. That is why we developed an innovative infrastructure where users and organizations can issue, exchange and verify credentials online.

We also showed how simple the implementation process was for the University of Maribor, which digitized the paper student enrollment form. As a result, the student can receive an enrollment credential directly in his digital wallet (Rekono OnePass). From there, he can share it with other services, such as the rail service ticket provider, who can instantly check his student status and issue a subsidized ticket without verifying it with the university beforehand.

LECTURE 2: A NEW ACCELERATION FOR THE DIGITAL MARKET – GLOBAL TRUST FRAMEWORKS AND DIGITAL IDENTITY EVOLUTION

In his speech, Alen Horvat, an expert in blockchain and SSI-related technologies, addressed the new approach to digital trust and its exciting opportunities for different entities in the digital market. As he explained, the need to secure e-services and enable data exchange between parties online has led to the development of new solutions, putting trusted digital identity at the centre of every digital transaction.

Similarly, user authentication and identification evolved from a centralized to a delegated form until they finally put the user in the forefront. Thus, recently completely independent projects, EBSI (European Blockchain Services Infrastructure) and GAIN (Global Assured Identity Network), started developing the same digital trust framework on a global level.

Mr Horvat is active in e-identity standardization (OpenID, Decentralized Identity Foundation, ISO) and digital trust framework formation (GAIN). He is also an indispensable member and a lead blockchain architect of the Core Services Team for EBSI (EU Blockchain Infrastructure) and the workgroup eSSIF (EU SSI Identity Framework). He is also the recipient of the Kim Cameron Award, which the OpenID foundation grants to young talents in the field of e-identity.

This year’s sixth edition of ZEIDES, an international conference on e-identification and e-trust services for electronic transactions, had a record in visitors, venturing into the new biometric and electronic SI identity card, legal regulation of personal e-identity, processing of individual e-identity data, the EU digital identity wallet and new trust services within the framework of the revision of the eIDAS regulation.
